Corona crisis - Information on library services

Due to the corona crisis, the library services of the KIT Library, the Fachbibliothek HsKA (FBH), and the Fachbibliothek DHBW Karlsruhe (FBD) are still limited. You will find detailed information on this page.

Access to KIT-Bibliothek Süd

  • KIT-Bibliothek Süd is open Monday till Friday (on workdays) from 9 am to 3 pm.
  • The opening hours of the other KIT library locations can be found here.
  • Access is possible exclusively for registered users in possession of a valid library card, for the purpose of collecting pre-ordered books (see below) or using a study space (see below).
  • Please note: Book returns are only possible on workdays from 9 am to 3 pm as well.
  • You are only allowed to enter the library as a single person. Instructions given by library staff must be followed at all times.
  • Access is not allowed for persons who have stayed abroad in the last 14 days, as well as for persons who have been in contact with individuals infected by corona virus and for anyone who shows symptoms of an upper respiratory infection or fever.
  • Following the federal regulations of Baden-Wuerttemberg for shopping and using public transportation, and for reasons of infection prevention, all users must wear a non-medical face mask or a similar cover for mouth and nose when entering the KIT Library.
  • Entrance to and exit from the library are separated. Entering the building is possible via the eastern entrance from Adenauerring, leaving via the western exit.
  • Access is only possible with a valid library card.
  • The number of users who can enter the building at the same time is limited.
  • Access will be regulated by security staff at the main entrance. Please follow the instructions given by security staff. If you can’t access right away, please wait outside and keep a security distance to other persons.
  • When picking up pre-ordered books, please take them directly from the pick-up shelf, proceed to issue them and promptly leave the building.

++ NEW ++ Reservation of study spaces

  • Reservation of study spaces is only possible for registered users with a valid library card.
  • There are currently around 150 study spaces available in the reading rooms of KIT-Bibliothek Süd 12 study spaces at KIT-Bibliothek Nord an 77 study spaces at Fachbibliothek HsKA (FBH).
  • Due to infection prevention they can only be used after prior reservation.
  • Possible time slots are from 9 am to 11.45 am and 12 pm to 2.45 pm.

Digital Services

Borrowing items from KIT-Bibliothek Süd

  • You can order all lendable books and items from home via our online catalog and self-collect them from the pick-up shelf.
  •   Only pre-ordered or reserved books and items can be borrowed.
  • Books and items that are ready to collect can be found on the pick-up shelf, otherwise they are handed out at the information desk.
  • Interlibrary loan requests can be collected at the information desk.
  • Borrowed books can be returned at the return stations at KIT Library during service hours.

Consultation on using library services

  • We continue to give advice by phone or email on all questions concerning the use of our electronic resources.
  • Please contact us if the validity of your library account has expired.

  • Alternatively you can come by KIT-Bibliothek Süd personally during our service hours.

KIT Scientific Publishing

  • KIT Scientific Publishing and its services are still available as usual – just without direct personal contact.

Current restrictions

  • Old building and group study rooms remain closed.
  • You cannot reserve rooms for study groups.
  • The cafeteria, vending machines and the PC pools are closed/shut down.
  • Non-lendable books cannot be ordered or borrowed.
  • Access to the reading rooms and the textbook collection to borrow books is not possible.
