Canceled: Research Data Management Elaborated with Tools and Services at KIT [ON-SITE WORKSHOP]

Dienstag, 30. April 2024, 10:00-17:00
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)
Bldg. 30.51, KIT-Bibliothek Süd, 3. OG Neubau, Vortragssaal/Lecture Hall (https://www.bibliothek.kit.edu/img/PlaeneBIB-S/BIB-S-OG3-A4-Vortragssaal-Lecture-Hall.pdf)

Parallel to the professional competences (research phase), the planning of research projects (pre-research phase) and the handling and publication (post-research phase) of research results (including research data) are among the integral key competencies of researchers. In all phases, the competent use of research data management (RDM) proves essential for disseminating research results and is an important step for a career in science and research. Effective data management can help optimise research outputs, increase the impact of your research and support open scientific research.

This training event will provide you with basic RDM skills and help you make informed decisions about how to go about managing your research data, regardless of your discipline or academic field. You will receive in-depth training on best practices for documenting, organising, sharing and archiving your research data according to the FAIR data principles, including personal data and working in international collaborations.

The training addresses the practical application of RDM, allowing you to practice data documentation and learn how to create or improve data management plans for your research projects. In addition, you will be introduced to the interdisciplinary RDM services at KIT. Tools along the research data life cycle, such as Research Data Management Organiser (RDMO), Registry of Research Data Repositories (re3data) and the generic research data repository RADAR4KIT, including some short RDM exercises, will round off the training. After completing this workshop, you will be better equipped to manage your data throughout the research data lifecycle, from project planning to completion.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Identify legal and data protection issues to be considered in your research and data management plans,
  • Apply best practices for documenting, organising, sharing and archiving your research data,
  • Explain the FAIR principles and the importance of metadata for research,
  • Create data management plans for your research,
  • Use tools and services at KIT for your own research data management purposes,
  • And find available information and support for RDM.

This event is open to doctoral researchers and postdocs at KIT who are KHYS members.

If you are unable to attend an event, please inform us promptly via e-mail. This way you are allowing your colleagues the opportunity to participate and you help us to maintain the quality of our Further Education Program. Thank you!
