Library Account
A library account allows you to borrow books and media on-site and gives you access to the 24-hour library even outside of regular service hours. You can set up a personal library account in just a few steps.

Students from Other Universities and Members of the General Public
New library cards are issued exclusively at the Info Desk in the KIT Library South during service hours. The library card for the KIT Library costs a one-time fee of 15 euros.
Please bring the following documents with you when applying for your KIT Library card or activating your card (see above):
- A valid government-issued ID (identity card, residence permit, passport).
- If your address in Germany is not listed on your ID, you must provide a confirmation from the Residents’ Registration Office (no older than 6 months).
- Minors under the age of 18 must also provide a written declaration of consent from their legal guardian.
As part of the KA-LIB smart card federation, participating libraries in Karlsruhe recognize library cards issued by other member institutions. If you already have one of the following cards, you can have it activated free of charge at the KIT Library South during service hours:
- a valid student ID from PH Karlsruhe,
- a valid library card from the Badische Landesbibliothek Karlsruhe,
- a valid library card from the Karlsruhe City Library.
Once you have opened your personal KIT library account, you will have access to e-resources on the internet-connected computers at the KIT Library South; remote access is not available.
Members of the Eucor Universities
Members of the Eucor universities receive a free library card for the libraries of all partner institutions in the network.
Withdrawal from KIT for Students
As part of your withdrawal from the university, you will need a clearance form from KIT Library. Please bring your withdrawal application to the Info Desk at the KIT Library South during service hours. Alternatively, you can email fully completed and signed applications to infodesk∂bibliothek.kit.edu.
Good to know!
- Your library account will be deleted immediately upon issuance of the clearance note. You will then no longer be able to borrow printed books, reserve seats, or have 24-hour access to the library.
- You will still have access to electronic resources through your SCC account.
