20 Years of the 24-Hour Library – Three Perspectives on Architecture, Space, and Use

How is a library that operates around the clock created? On the 20th anniversary of the 24-hour library on the South Campus, three interviewees look back on its creation and development from different perspectives.

Ralf Schönberger of Gaiser und Partner Freie Architekten mbB, who played a key role in overseeing the construction of the building, discusses the architectural fundamentals. Corona Feederle of feco-Feederle GmbH provides insights into the interior design. Diana M. Tangen, Head of User Services and Subject Specialist at the KIT Library, offers the perspective of library use and operations.

Together, these three perspectives show how architecture, interior design, and user needs have shaped the concept of the 24-hour library – and what continues to define this place of learning and work even 20 years after its opening.
