KIT Library and the libraries of the HKA and DHBW Karlsruhe offer their users access to a wide variety of electronic resources (e-books, electronic journals, databases, etc.). You can use the KIT catalog to search for these resources. You can search for electronic journals directly in the EZB and use DBIS for databases.

To use our electronic resources, you need access to the KIT, HKA, or DHBW Karlsruhe network, or you must authenticate yourself via Shibboleth login. For registered individuals, access to electronic resources is only available on the library’s internet-connected computers.

• Shibboleth enables user authentication and authorization for the respective services. Please note that not every publisher or database provider supports Shibboleth. Detailed information on the Shibboleth login can be found on the websites of the respective institutions.

Contractual and Legal Requirements 

The KIT Library has entered into license agreements with various publishers and database providers for the use of fee-based electronic resources. Separate agreements exist for KIT, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), and DHBW Karlsruhe.

In addition to the KIT Library’s Terms of Use and copyright provisions, the providers’ general terms and conditions of business and use—which can be found on their respective websites—apply. By accessing the content, users agree to these terms.

Failure to comply with the terms of use may result in the permanent suspension of online access for the individual user or even for the entire institution.

The following applies in general:

• The full texts of articles may only be printed or saved for personal use and for research and teaching purposes. The systematic downloading of articles, e-books, or search results—particularly by robots or similar software—is prohibited. Please also note the information on text and data mining.
• The content may not be redistributed or used commercially in either electronic or printed form.
• Upper limits specified by the publisher for printing and downloading—e.g., within a single browser session—must be observed. In particular, printing or copying entire e-books by stringing together multiple browser sessions is prohibited.

Access Issues

In everyday use, access to electronic media may occasionally be disrupted—for example, due to server outages, unannounced changes to access conditions, or general network issues. The KIT Library works continuously to resolve such disruptions as quickly as possible and restore availability.

If you nevertheless encounter access problems, please try the following measures or keep the following in mind:

• Please try accessing the service again in a few minutes. There may be a brief technical outage, or the maximum number of concurrent users may have been reached. As soon as the load (maximum number of concurrent users) decreases, the service will be fully available to you again.
• Enable or delete cookies
• Switch browsers
• Special software may be required
• Alternatively, try accessing the service via VPN or Shibboleth, and vice versa
• Check the KIT catalog to see if we have a license for the content you want for your own institution.
