Accessible toilets are located in the KIT Library South (basement of the new building) and can be opened with a Euro WC Key. You can also obtain a key from the Info Desk (ground floor new building) during service hours.

Terms of Use
Consultation Room

The consultation room is located on the ground floor of the new building at KIT Library South. Here, 2 to 4 people can study and work undisturbed in a small group.
Reservation is possible for KIT, HKA, and DHBW members via the Anny reservation system.
 

Paying Fees

You can pay fees at our payment stations using your library card. You can charge your KIT Card or library card at one of the top-up stations. The KIT Library South has a top-up station (accepting EC card payments) on the ground floor of the new building. More information

DBIS Database Information System

The Database Information System (DBIS) is a directory of academic databases. It contains the databases licensed to KIT, HKA, and DHBW Karlsruhe, as well as freely accessible databases. Within the respective databases, you can search very specifically by subject. Academic databases contain references to articles and other media. In addition, you can search for standards and factual databases, e.g., for material properties or statistical data.
Please note that each institution only shows its own licenses.

Printing

Internet PCs with attached printers are available at all KIT Library locations except the Learning Center at Fasanenschlösschen (LAF) and the HKA Library. You can log in with your university account or library account, and printing costs are charged to your library account.

Please note:

  • At KIT Library South, you can only print documents available on the internet (e.g., journal articles) – files from your USB drive cannot be printed here.
  • At the DHBW Karlsruhe Library, the printer is only available to DHBW students.

3D Printing

The Media Center has a 3D printer that can be used to create objects from a provided 3D model. This service is available to KIT students and staff for a fee.

Electronic Journals Library – EZB 

The Electronic Journals Library is a directory of electronic academic journals. It contains the journals licensed to KIT, HKA, and DHBW Karlsruhe, as well as freely accessible full-text journals. For non-licensed journals, at least the table of contents and abstracts are usually freely available.
The EZB can be used to search for journals, but not for individual articles. For this purpose, please use the KIT catalog "Articles & Papers".
Please note that each institution only shows its own licenses. 

Parent-Child Room

The room on the 3rd floor of the old building (room 32) at KIT Library South is open to all students with children daily from 7 AM to 10 PM. It accommodates up to six people, two wall monitors, a play area with a toy kitchen, children's books, a KidsBox, and a changing table. Parents with children always have priority and do not need to reserve the room.

Food and Drink

Some library locations have beverage and/or snack vending machines and cafeterias for a quick refreshment. Sealed beverages in bottles or cups with lids may be taken to the study space; food is only allowed in cafeterias or lounge areas. For payment, it is useful to have your KIT Card, Campus Card, or other student ID with you.

Did you leave something behind? Did you find something that another user forgot? For lost items that can be identified by name, the KIT Library tries to inform the owner. Lost and found items can be handed in or picked up at the Info Desk at the respective locations

Textbook Collection (LBS) KIT Library South

In the LBS, you will find lendable textbooks in multiple copies freely accessible and systematically arranged.

  • You can borrow a maximum of 15 volumes from the LBS.
  • For all LBS titles, at least one additional copy is available in the respective reading room. You can use these non-lendable copies as an alternative if all copies of a title in the LBS are currently on loan.

Loan Period, Renewal of the Loan Period 

The loan period for books and media is generally four weeks. Renewal via the library account is generally possible up to five times, provided no reservations are pending. The exact due date can be found on the due date slip at checkout or in your online account. Overdue fees apply if the loan period is exceeded.

Mobile charging stations can be used at study spaces that do not have electrical outlets; they offer ports for multiple devices.

Sustainability
24-Hour Operation 

KIT Library South is open 24/7, Monday through Sunday. Access outside service hours and on public holidays is only possible with a valid library card. During 24-hour operation, weekends, and public holidays, a security service supervises the library premises. Security personnel can be contacted at the counter in the lobby if needed.

If you wish to briefly leave your study space at KIT Library South and return to it, you must use a seat marker during exam periods in the new building. Seat markers are available at the Info Desk in the reading rooms. In the old building, seat markers are not valid. Storage Containers

At KIT Library South, storage containers can be borrowed free of charge to safely store work materials. Borrowing and return is at the Info Desk on the ground floor during service hours; the loan period is two weeks. Storage containers may be used freely within the building as long as they do not block study spaces or escape routes. Fees apply if the loan period is exceeded. Changing Table

A changing table is located at KIT Library South in the accessible toilet in the basement of the new building (west side). You can obtain a key from the Info Desk (ground floor new building) during service hours.

WLAN / Internet Access

Internet access at the KIT Library is available via the KIT, HKA, or DHBW-KA networks, as well as via eduroam Guests without institutional access can use the free KA-WLAN.

Access to licensed electronic media is only possible on the KIT, HKA or DHBW-KA networks, or via appropriate authentication (e.g., VPN or Shibboleth). When using eduroam or KA-WLAN, access to licensed e-media is not available.

All print and electronic journals of the KIT Library can be found in the KIT Catalog. There you will also find the journals of a selection of other KIT libraries (e.g., institute libraries). Electronic journals can also be searched directly in the Electronic Journals Library EZB (access via KIT, HKA, or DHBW-KA). In the EZB, you will find all available academic journals with corresponding license information for the KIT Library. In the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), you can also find freely accessible academic journals in full text.
