Barrier-Free and Wheelchair-Accessible Restrooms
Restrooms for people with disabilities are located in the KIT Library South (basement of the new building) and can be unlocked with a Euro-WC key. You can also pick up a key during service hours at the Info Desk (ground floor of the new building).

Study Booth
The Consultation Booth is located on the ground floor of the new wing of the KIT Library South. Here, 2 to 4 people can study and work undisturbed in a small group.
Reservations are available to KIT, HKA, and DHBW members via the Anny reservation system.
The box is reserved for HOC (House of Competence) consultations during the following times:
- Monday: 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Tuesday: 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
- Wednesday: 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Thursday: 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Paying Fees
You can pay fees using your library card at our pay stations. You can recharge your KIT Card or library card at one of the cash-to-card machine. In the KIT Library South, you’ll find a cash-to-card machine (accepting EC card payments) on the ground floor of the new building. More information

DBIS Database Information System
The Database Information System (DBIS) is a directory of academic databases. It includes databases licensed for KIT , HKA , and DHBW Karlsruhe , as well as freely accessible databases. Within each database, searches can be conducted with a high degree of thematic specificity. Academic databases contain references to papers, articles, and other media. In addition, users can search for standards and look up information in fact databases—for example, material properties or statistical parameters.

Printing
Internet-connected computers with printers are available at all KIT Library locations, with the exception of the Learning Center at Fasanenschlösschen (LAF) and the Subject Library HKA. You can log in there using your KIT account; printing charges will be applied to your library account.
Please note:
- At the KIT Library South, you can only print documents available online (e.g., journal articles)—files from your USB drive cannot be printed here.
- At the Subject Library DHBW, the printer is available only to DHBW students.

3D Printing
The Media Center has a 3D printer that can be used to create objects based on a 3D model you provide. This service is available to KIT students and staff for a fee.

Electronic Journal Library – EZB
The Electronic Journal Library is a directory of electronic academic journals. It contains full-text versions of journals licensed for KIT, the HKA, and the DHBW Karlsruhe, as well as openly accessible journals. For journals not covered by a license, at least the tables of contents and abstracts are generally freely available.
You can search the EZB for journals, but not for individual essays or articles. For this, please use, for example, the KIT catalog “Essays & Papers.”
Please note that each institution lists only its own credentials.
Parent-Child Room
Located on the 3rd floor of the old building (Room 32) of the KIT Library South, the room is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. to all students with children. It accommodates up to six people and features two wall-mounted monitors, a play area with a play kitchen, children’s books, a KidsBox, and a changing table. Parents with children always have priority and do not need to reserve the room.

Eat and Drink
At some library locations, beverage and/or snack vending machines as well as cafeterias are available for a quick bite. Beverages in sealed bottles or cups with lids may be taken to your workspace; food is only permitted in cafeterias or lounge areas. For payment, it’s a good idea to have your KIT Card, Campus Card, or another student ID with you.

Lost and Found
Did you leave something behind? Did you find something that another user left behind? For lost and found items that can be traced to a specific person, the KIT Library will attempt to notify the owner. Lost and found items can be turned in or picked up at the Info Desk at each location.

Textbook Collection (LBS) KIT Library South
In the LBS, you’ll find multiple copies of textbooks available for loan, freely accessible and systematically arranged.
- You may borrow up to 15 volumes from the LBS.
- For every title in the LBS, at least one additional copy is available in the corresponding reading room. You can use these copies—which cannot be checked out—if all copies of a title in the LBS are currently checked out.
Loan Period, Loan Period Extension
The loan period for books and media is generally four weeks. You can usually renew the loan up to five times via your library account, provided there is no pre-registration on the item. The exact due date can be found on the due date slip provided at checkout or in your online account. Late fees apply if the loan period is exceeded.

Nighttime Hours
The KIT Library South is open 24 hours a day, Monday through Sunday. Access outside of service hours and on public holidays is only permitted with a valid library card. During nighttime hours, on weekends, and on public holidays, a security service monitors the library premises. Security personnel can be approached at the counter in the foyer if needed

Break Token
If you leave your workstation in the KIT Library South for a short break and wish to return to it, you must use a break pass in the new building during exam periods. You can find break passes at the Info Desk in the reading rooms. Break passes are not valid in the old building. Rolling Cabinets
At the KIT Library South, rolling storage units can be borrowed free of charge to securely store work materials. Items can be checked out and returned at the Info Desk on the ground floor during service hours; the loan period is two weeks. Rolling carts may be used freely within the building as long as they do not block workstations or emergency exits. Fees apply if the loan period is exceeded. The lecture hall is located on the 3rd floor of the new building at the KIT Library South. AStA-registered student groups or KIT institutions may reserve the lecture hall for larger events with an academic focus upon request.

There is a changing table in the KIT Library South, located in the barrier-free restroom in the basement of the new building (west side). You can pick up a key at the Info Desk (ground floor of the new building) during service hours.
Wi-Fi / Internet Access
Internet access is available in the KIT Library via the KIT, HKA, or DHBW-KA networks, as well as via eduroam. Guests without institutional access can use the free KA Wi-Fi.
Access to licensed electronic media is only possible via the KIT, HKA, or DHBW-KA networks, or through appropriate authentication (e.g., VPN or Shibboleth). When using eduroam or KA Wi-Fi, there is no access to licensed e-resources.

Journals, Print/Electronic
All print and electronic journals held by the KIT Library can be found in the KIT catalog. There you will also find journals from a selection of other KIT libraries (e.g., departmental libraries). You can also search for electronic journals directly in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) (access via KIT , HKA , or DHBW-KA ). In the EZB, you’ll find all available scholarly journals with corresponding license information for the KIT Library. In the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), you’ll also find open-access scholarly journals available in full text.
