bwDIM – bwDataInMotion

Project Duration: April 2018 – March 2021

bwDIM follows a four-step approach:

  1. Examination of researchers’ key work processes related to archiving, publication, and reuse; identification of existing gaps at the process level and in basic technical services (gap analysis)
  2. Development of solutions for process optimization using the improved or expanded basic technical services
  3. Development of solutions for optimizing and expanding the basic technical services
  4. Validation of the results using existing systems and user groups

For this approach, bwDIM can draw on the findings of the bwDataDiss, bwFDM-Communities, bwDataArchiv, and RADAR projects. Derived from these, several key areas of focus emerge for bwDIM:

  • Providing suitable submission channels for data archiving
  • Providing efficient access to cost-effective archiving systems
  • Providing convenient mechanisms for data publication
  • Providing suitable dissemination channels for archived/published data
  • Ensuring end-to-end authentication and authorization

The combination of these measures leads to the standardization of work processes in the field of research data management—resulting not only in greater acceptance but also in cost savings in the provision of services.
