Project Duration: April 2015 – March 2019

The “Learning Space Development at KIT” project has as a target to improve the learning space environment at KIT. In addition to optimizing existing learning spaces—that is, rooms that students use for private study outside of courses—the project also seeks to explore and implement new spatial or organizational concepts on a pilot basis, such as the temporary use of seminar rooms as learning spaces or the introduction of a room reservation system.

To coordinate central and decentralized learning space initiatives at KIT and improve communication regarding them, the position of Learning Space Coordinator was established as part of the project; this role is administratively based at the KIT Library. The areas of action are discussed by the interdisciplinary Teaching and Learning Spaces Working Group and explored in pilot projects together with other stakeholders.
