Dr. Arne Upmeier has been Director of the KIT Library since May 2020. Previously, he was Deputy Director at the University Library of the Technical University of Ilmenau.
He studied law and philosophy at the universities of Freiburg, Lund, and Münster. He earned his doctorate from the Technical University of Berlin on a topic in the philosophy of law. Arne Upmeier is married and has three children.
In addition to his role as Ethics Officer for the German Library Association, he is a member of several national and international committees, including the Working Group on Digital Libraries within the German Literature Council, the Franco-German Commission on the Digitalization of Copyrighted Works, and the working group “Law for Science in the Digital Age” of the Alliance of Science Organizations. He represents German libraries on the Copyright Committee of the German Cultural Council and regularly advises the German Library Association on legal matters.
