This project aims to establish a freely accessible infrastructure through the development of two independent IT systems—the Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) and the Chemistry Repository (Chemotion)—which will enable new approaches to data collection, data management, and the dissemination of the information obtained.

The new model combines the collection and documentation of data with its publication and storage. Optimized IT structures are intended to prevent data loss right from the moment it is generated in the laboratory. Specifically, this requires the integration of analytical instruments into a web-based Laboratory Information and Management System (LIMS) and the development of an electronic planning and management platform for reactions and their results. These IT structures will be developed as part of this project and consolidated into an electronic (evidence-secure) laboratory notebook (ELN – Electronic Lab Notebook).

Storage and indexing—which currently take place only after data is published in journals or patents—should be possible immediately after the data is generated. To this end, the existing Chemotion repository will be further developed accordingly.
