Project Duration: September 1, 2019 – December 31, 2022

The “Learning Libraries Karlsruhe – Creative Work and Learning” project aims to strengthen Karlsruhe’s libraries as a cross-institutional learning landscape so that they can collectively meet the high demand for information services and workspaces. To this end, the KIT Library, the Badische Landesbibliothek, and the libraries of the University of Education, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, the Duale Hochschule, as well as the joint library of the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design and the ZKM, aim to strengthen their networks, promote collaborative and active learning methods, and increase the visibility of spaces and services.

A learning space app, to be developed in collaboration with users and stakeholders, is intended to virtually connect the offerings of multiple institutions and provide a clear overview of the facilities and availability of learning spaces. By reconfiguring multiple locations, various new learning settings will be created, and their use will be examined through an accompanying evaluation. The participating libraries see themselves as the nucleus of Karlsruhe’s learning landscape, which is also to be designed to accommodate new offerings and forms of participation.

With the “Learning Libraries Karlsruhe” project, the participating institutions are pursuing the following targets:

1. Increase visibility in both the digital and physical spaces,
2. Design new learning settings and learning on the move: Create creative learning spaces, promote project and group work, and support dynamic learner behaviors,
3. Evaluation and modification: Sustainability is to be achieved through the evaluation of measures and the establishment of improvement cycles.
