Steps to Book Publication
KIT Scientific Publishing (KSP) supports its authors throughout the entire publication process—from preparation through production to distribution.
In addition to digital publication, it offers the option of publishing the work as a printed book as well. Through the print-on-demand process, it is then also available through international bookstores. This approach thus combines the advantages of free digital access with a professional print edition.
1. Planning
Document Templates and Layout
You can find document templates for the layout of your publication and guidelines for preparing a manuscript in the Document Templates and Layout section. If your work is to be published as part of a series, a standard document template is agreed upon between the publisher and the editors. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Plus Service: KSP also handles typesetting. You can inquire about requirements and conditions via email.
Publication Inquiry
You can submit the details of your planned publication using the inquiry form. The form includes all relevant requirements regarding quality assurance, licensing, etc., that must be observed.
The price calculator can provide you with an approximate estimate of the publication costs in advance.
Offers and Orders
Based on the information provided in the inquiry form, a non-binding offer will be prepared and sent to you via email along with an order form and additional information. If you accept the offer under the specified terms, please return the completed order form to the KSP team via email.
Publishing Agreement
As soon as we receive your order, you will receive the publishing contract via email for your signature and return.
File Exchange and Manuscript Submission
File exchange with the publisher takes place exclusively via a personalized file directory on the online storage service bwSync&Share, which is set up specifically for your book project and will be communicated to you via email. It remains valid for the entire duration of your order. Please upload your manuscript there and then let us know once you’ve done so.
Subject Areas
To make your publication searchable and discoverable, its content must be indexed. You can submit the necessary data (subject groups, keywords, abbreviated abstracts, etc.) to us via an online form.
2. Production
Manuscript Review and Cover Design
Your manuscript file will be reviewed for technical and formal compliance with the publisher’s guidelines. The results of the review will be sent to you. This feedback may include suggested formal changes to the manuscript, which you can then implement.
The cover design is created in close consultation with you and can be customized according to your own ideas. For book series, the covers are produced in accordance with the guidelines established by the series editors.
The title is assigned an ISBN and a barcode label. Books in a series are also assigned the ISSN of the respective series.
Print Approval and Printing
The number of printed copies for your own use and any required deposit copies is specified in the request form. The KSP team handles the printing process. A proof is ordered from the printer and sent to you for review. Once the review is complete, the books are sent to print. You will be notified as soon as they arrive.
Online Publication
Once approved for publication, your book will be published as an online document in the KITopen Repository (with a DOI), in the publisher’s online store, and on e-book platforms.
