70 Years of KIT Library Campus North: Anniversary Days Under the Motto “Preserve. Renew. Create.”

Christian Elsner | KIT

As part of its 70th anniversary, the KIT Library on Campus North is offering a diverse anniversary program through November 2026. From June 30 through July 2, 2026, you are cordially invited to the anniversary celebrations to learn about the history of the library at this location, discover new perspectives for the future, and explore the services offered by KIT Library.

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, an anniversary afternoon will take place under the theme “The Library as a Partner to Science Through the Ages”. Following a brief overview of the history of the library on the Campus North by Dr. Hans-Jürgen Goebelbecker, a panel discussion will address the current topic “Publish or Perish” – Academic Publishing Against the Backdrop of Rising Publication Costs. The panelists will be Prof. Kora Kristof, Acting Prof. Ralf Mikut, Prof. Anke-Susanne Müller , and Dr. Arne Upmeier.

On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, and Thursday, July 2, 2026, we invite you to four concise After Lunch Coffee Talks each, focusing on services offered by KIT Library under the theme “The Library as a Partner to Science Today and Tomorrow”.

In addition, and only on these anniversary days, you will have another opportunity to view the exhibition “200 Years of KIT – 100 Objects”, which was presented at the ZKM in 2025.

Feel free to stop by the other events in our anniversary program as well:

  • Knowledge in a Nutshell: Every third Wednesday of the month (1:30 p.m.) After-Lunch Coffee Talks on library services
  • Poster session on library services and selected projects
  • “Discover 70 Years of History”: Exhibitions featuring fascinating objects from the archives at Campus North and Campus South
  • Book Swap Frenzy: Browse, swap, and take a book home even without bringing one to swap (stories, mysteries, novels, biographies, and much more…)
  • Podcasts on topics from the KIT Archives
  • “Art – Short and Sweet”: Art snippets during your lunch break featuring objects in the KIT Library
  • Escape Room: Research data management as an interactive experience under the motto “Crack the codes, save the data!”
