70 Years of KIT Library, Campus North – Preserve. Renew. Create.

Last week, from June 30 to July 2, 2026, KIT Library North celebrated its 70th anniversary with an extensive program focusing on the history of the library at this location, the services offered by KIT Library, and new perspectives for the future.
Wednesday, July 1, 2026, was themed “The Library as a Partner to Science Through the Ages.” Following an engaging overview of the history of the library on the Campus North by Dr. Hans-Jürgen Goebelbecker, Prof. Kora Kristof, Prof. Anke-Susanne Müller, Adjunct Prof. Prof. Ralf Mikut, and Dr. Arne Upmeier engaged in a very stimulating discussion on the topic “Publish or Perish”—academic publishing against the backdrop of rising publication costs.
On Tuesday and Thursday, After-Lunch Coffee Talks offered insights into KIT Library’s services relevant to researchers.
Another highlight of the anniversary celebrations was the exhibition “200 Years of KIT – 100 Objects,” which had already been presented at the ZKM in 2025. Numerous visitors took advantage of this second opportunity to view this extraordinary exhibition in the foyer of the library on Campus North.
We thank all participants and guests for the lively exchange and for joining us in the celebration. We look forward to seeing you at all future courses.
P.S.: Be sure to mark your calendars now for the next event on July 15, 2026, at KIT Library Campus North:
- After Lunch Coffee Talks at 1:30 p.m.
Talk 1: Financial Support for Open Access Publishing: Framework Agreements with Publishers and the KIT publication fund
Talk 2: The Diamond OA Path: Journal Launch and Flipping with KIT Scientific Publishing - Book Swap from 1:00–3:00 p.m.
