Happy Birthday, KVK!
July 26 marks the 30th anniversary of the Karlsruhe Virtual Catalog (KVK). Since its launch in 1996, the KVK has enabled parallel searches across library and union catalogs worldwide. What began as an innovative idea at the KIT Library has evolved into an established, publicly funded search infrastructure for scholarly research.
To mark this anniversary, we’re taking a look back at three decades of the KVK: How did the idea come about? What technical milestones shaped its development? And what does the KVK mean to its users today? On our anniversary page, you’ll find interviews, historical snippets, and personal testimonials from users—and learn more about the history and development of the KVK.
