After two years, the BMFTR project ERRED (“Development of a reference model for reporting in scientific institutions based on DORA”) was completed in August 2025.

DORA is an initiative founded in 2012 with the aim of fundamentally reforming the evaluation of scientific performance. The focus is on moving away from journal- and publication-based indicators such as the Journal Impact Factor or the h-index. Instead, research evaluation and reporting should be based on qualitative criteria that take into account the diversity of research results and career stages.

With this in mind, ERRED pursued the goal of implementing these recommendations at KIT. As part of the project, a reference model was developed consisting of an expanded set of indicators and recommended framework conditions, which can serve as a starting point for the further development of research performance evaluation at KIT. The main drivers of the project were workshops with various stakeholders and units at KIT involved in reporting and research assessment, as well as the Helmholtz Open Science Office. This laid the foundation for further reforms and cultural change.

Further information on ERRED can be found on the project website.
