What is true? Freedom of information and expression in the digital age

Series of events for Freedom of Expression Week

As part of the nationwide Freedom of Expression Week (May 3 to 10, 2026), which takes place under the motto "What is true?", the KIT Library invites you to a series of events on various aspects of freedom of information and expression in the digital age.

The lectures provide impulses and invite discussion. They take a look at the challenges posed by disinformation and deepfakes, examine the influence of social bots on public debates, shed light on the boundaries between freedom of opinion and censorship and show how dubious scientific publications and AI threaten the free formation of opinion - and what role different scientific perspectives play in the debate on the energy transition, for example.

In addition, two workshops offer concrete perspectives for action:
The Smart Research workshop teaches effective strategies for researching reliable information and the Fair instead of Loud workshop shows how constructive argumentation can succeed even in polarized discussions.

HIGHLIGHT
On Monday, May 4, 2026, we will show the documentary THE LIBRARIANS (English OV, without subtitles) in the lecture hall of the KIT library from 6:30 pm. The film sheds light on the role of library staff in defending freedom of information. Admission is from 18:00.

The lectures and workshops will take place virtually: Link to the livestream. Registration is not required.
