KIT receives DFG funding for the Specialised Information Service Chemistry (FID Chemie)

KIT has received funding approval from the German Research Foundation (DFG) for a new information infrastructure. The Specialised Information Service Chemistry (FID Chemistry) will establish a supra-regional research and information platform that centralizes access to previously scattered scientific information and enables researchers to obtain information efficiently. The services will be closely geared to the specific requirements of the specialist community and will be continuously developed in close cooperation with them.

The FID Chemistry is being realized by KIT Library in close cooperation with the TIB - Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and Technology University Library as well as another KIT partner, the Institute of Biological and Chemical Systems (IBCS). The project is expected to begin in January 2026.

TIB and KIT Library are recognized and high-performance scientific libraries that focus on engineering and natural sciences. Both are members of the TU9 Universities Alliance through their universities. Both institutions have outstanding experience in the areas of information access and information research. In the Department of Chemistry, the very intensive and long-standing cooperation between KIT-BIB and KIT-IBCS has resulted in several successful projects in the realms of open source software development, digitization and infrastructure development for Open Science.

The three project partners thus form a comprehensive, complementary specialist network in order to efficiently and sustainably implement the fields of action of the FID Chemistry. The new specialized information service will strengthen the Germany-wide FID network and make an important contribution to the further development of the scientific information infrastructure in Germany.
